How Wilt Chamberlain Changed Basketball Forever
Wilt “The Stilt” Chamberlain changed the game of basketball forever. When he was still in high school he was already changing the game of basketball. The way he approached free throws led to rule changes that are still in place today. Chamberlain would throw the ball of the backboard and catch the ball in the air and dunk it. Because players couldn’t stop him from doing this, the rules were changed so that a free throw shooter couldn’t cross the free throw line until after the ball hit the rim.
Wilt Chamberlain revolutionized the center position in basketball. The NBA had never seen such an athletic and dominant big man. He commanded triple teams on a regular basis. Chamberlain once scored 100 points in an NBA game. This is a record that still stands today and many feel may never be broken. Greats such as Jordan, Kareem and Bird have come and gone and not approached his scoring record. The closest it has come to being broken was an 81 point effort by Laker star Kobe Bryant.
Wilt Chamberlain is arguably the greatest center to play the game and his play helped change the game of basket ball forever. His name still stands by several basketball records.Want to know more? Go ahead: NBA: The 15 Most Unbreakable Records in League History
