Honoring Bobby Richardson
Bobby Richardson debuted on August 5, 1955. He racked up 1,432 hits in his career, with a lifetime batting average of .266, 34 home runs and 390 RBIs. He won five Gold Gloves at second base, while forming a top double play combination with shortstop (and roommate) Tony Kubek. With the light-hitting but superb-fielding Yankee third baseman Clete Boyer, Richardson and Kubek gave the Yankees arguably the best defensive infield in baseball. His most famous defensive play came at the end of the 1962 World Series, mentioned below, when Richardson made a clutch catch that prevented Willie Mays and Matty Alou from scoring the runs that would have beaten the Yankees and given the Series to the San Francisco Giants.
- 7-time AL All-Star (1957, 1959, 1962-66)
- World Series MVP in 1960

- Led AL in At Bats per Strikeout in 1964 (18.9), 1965 (17.0) and 1966 (21.8)
- Ranks 79th on MLB Career At Bats per Strikeout List (22.2)

About The Foundation
WELCOME TO HARLEM RBI
Growing up in East Harlem is tough. The neighborhood, defined by its massive public housing projects, soaring crime rates, and the persistent shadow of drugs and gangs, is hardly fertile ground for a young person to thrive. Public schools are overcrowded and failing, parks and play space are scarce, and families struggle to make ends meet. Against this backdrop, East Harlem children who are born into poverty do not stand much of a chance of making it out. Harlem RBI works hard to ensure that they do.
Harlem RBI, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is a unique year-round youth development program in East Harlem, New York. Since it’s founding in 1991, Harlem RBI has grown to serve more than 650 boys and girls annually, ages 7-18, providing them with year-round sports, education and enrichment activities.
MISSION
Harlem RBI’s mission is to use baseball and softball, and the power of teams, to provide inner-city youth with the opportunities to Play, to Learn, and to Grow, inspiring them to recognize their potential and realize their dreams.
